[Remote] DCMA Security Management Technical Writer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Crest Security Assurance is seeking a Technical Writer to support a DoD cybersecurity program. The role involves reviewing, editing, and developing technical policies and directives to ensure compliance with DoD standards and best practices in cybersecurity.
Responsibilities
- Review, edit, and assist in developing cybersecurity and IT-related policies, procedures, directives, and guidance documents in compliance with DoD, DISA, and USAF standards
- Ensure clarity, consistency, and conformance with DoDI 8500.01, DoDI 8510.01, and other relevant cybersecurity policy frameworks
- Apply plain language principles and DoD formatting standards to ensure policy readability and compliance with publishing requirements
- Coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs), Information System Security Officers (ISSOs), and Program Managers (PMs) to validate technical accuracy and policy alignment
- Create and refine infographics, visual summaries, flowcharts, and decision matrices to convey policy and procedural concepts
- Maintain and update document templates, style guides, and terminology glossaries for policy and directive materials
- Support quality control, version tracking, and configuration management for governance documentation
- Assist in policy gap analysis and document crosswalks to ensure consistency with higher-level DoD directives
- Prepare polished deliverables for internal and external review
Skills
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Meets DoD 8570 IAT or IAM Level II baseline certification requirements with one or more of the following: CompTIA Security+ CE, CAP, GSLC, CISM, CISSP (Associate accepted)
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience developing and editing technical policies, directives, or governance documents for federal or DoD organizations
- Proficiency with desktop publishing tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, InDesign, Illustrator, or Microsoft Word with advanced styles and templates
- Experience designing infographics and data visualizations to enhance comprehension of policy materials
- Strong understanding of DoD documentation standards, policy lifecycle, and controlled document processes
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity governance (DoDI 8500.01, DoDI 8510.01, NIST SP 800-53)
- Experience supporting Information Assurance (IA) or Cybersecurity offices
- Knowledge of Records Management (RM) and Configuration Management (CM) practices for official DoD documentation
- Experience with SharePoint, Atlassian Confluence, or similar document collaboration environments
- Ability to communicate complex technical or policy concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences
