About arenaflex

arenaflex is a leading global health‑technology organization that transforms raw health data into actionable insights for pharmaceutical innovators, payers, and care providers. With a mission to accelerate evidence‑based decision‑making, arenaflex combines cutting‑edge analytics, artificial intelligence, and deep domain expertise to unlock the value of real‑world evidence (RWE) across the entire healthcare ecosystem. Our remote‑first culture empowers talented professionals worldwide to collaborate across time zones, leverage state‑of‑the‑art platforms, and make a tangible impact on patient outcomes while enjoying the flexibility of a home‑based work environment.

Role Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated Remote Real‑World Evidence Data Scientist to join our Clinical Insights team. This full‑time position offers a competitive rate of $26 per hour and the freedom to work from anywhere in the United States. You will be at the forefront of designing, executing, and interpreting rigorous data analyses that inform drug development, health‑economics assessments, and regulatory submissions. Reporting directly to the Chief, Clinical Data Science, you will partner with cross‑functional experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics to translate complex data sets into clear, actionable recommendations for internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) raw clinical and claims data from internal databases and external sources into a unified data lake, ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Design and implement robust statistical analyses—including propensity‑score matching, survival analysis, hierarchical modeling, and Bayesian methods—to answer high‑impact business questions related to disease epidemiology, treatment patterns, and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical research scientists, epidemiologists, and health‑economics analysts to define study objectives, develop analytic plans, and interpret findings in the context of real‑world evidence generation.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or Spotfire that enable stakeholders to explore patient cohorts, treatment pathways, and outcome metrics in real time.
  • Lead the creation of reproducible analytical pipelines using Python, R, or SAS, and document all code, assumptions, and data provenance to support auditability and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct data quality assessments, identify gaps or anomalies, and implement remediation strategies to improve the reliability of RWE datasets.
  • Stay abreast of emerging methodologies in causal inference, machine learning, and health‑technology assessment, and proactively introduce innovative approaches to enhance arenaflex’s analytical capabilities.
  • Prepare concise, scientifically rigorous reports and presentations for internal leadership, external partners, and regulatory bodies, ensuring that insights are communicated clearly and accurately.
  • Participate in cross‑functional project teams, contributing data‑driven perspectives to product development, market access, and post‑marketing surveillance initiatives.
  • Mentor junior analysts and support the development of a knowledge‑sharing culture within the Clinical Insights group.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience conducting observational research or real‑world evidence analyses in the healthcare domain.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages (Python, R, or SAS) and familiarity with data‑wrangling libraries (pandas, dplyr, data.table).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large, heterogeneous data sets from electronic medical records (EMR), claims databases, and registries while maintaining strict data‑privacy standards.
  • Solid understanding of core statistical methods for causal inference, including regression modeling, propensity‑score techniques, and survival analysis.
  • Experience building interactive visualizations and dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, or similar business‑intelligence tools.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex quantitative results into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing high‑quality technical documentation and stakeholder‑focused presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with cloud‑based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data‑engineering tools such as Alteryx, dbt, or Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with clinical data standards and vocabularies (ICD‑9/10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm) and the ability to map raw data to these ontologies.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory frameworks governing real‑world evidence (e.g., FDA’s RWE guidance, EMA’s guidelines, ISO 14155).
  • Hands‑on experience with machine‑learning techniques for predictive modeling, natural language processing of clinical notes, or unsupervised clustering of patient phenotypes.
  • Prior involvement in multi‑center collaborative research projects, publications in peer‑reviewed journals, or presentations at industry conferences.
  • Exposure to health‑technology assessment (HTA) processes and cost‑utility analysis methodologies.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to design statistically sound studies, validate assumptions, and interpret results with scientific precision.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of data‑extraction tools, statistical software, and visualization platforms to deliver end‑to‑end analytical solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork orientation, comfortable partnering with clinicians, regulatory affairs, and business development professionals.
  • Problem‑Solving: Creative thinker who can navigate ambiguous data landscapes and propose innovative analytical approaches.
  • Communication: Clear storyteller who can convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences, tailoring messages to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Compliance Awareness: Deep understanding of data privacy (HIPAA, GDPR) and ethical considerations when handling patient‑level information.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying current with evolving methodologies, industry standards, and emerging data sources.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

arenaflex invests heavily in the professional development of its remote workforce. As a Data Scientist, you will have access to:

  • Annual learning stipends for conferences, certifications, and online courses (e.g., Coursera, edX, SAS, or AWS certifications).
  • Mentorship programs pairing you with senior scientists and industry thought leaders to accelerate skill acquisition.
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility projects that influence product pipelines, market‑access strategies, and regulatory submissions.
  • Cross‑functional rotations that expose you to health‑economics, outcomes research, and medical affairs, broadening your expertise beyond pure analytics.
  • Regular internal “Data Science Days” where teams showcase innovative work, share best practices, and foster a culture of knowledge exchange.
