As a Senior Collaboration and Productivity Engineer, you will serve as a key technical resource responsible for the advanced administration, engineering, and continuous improvement of the Microsoft 365 environment. This role combines deep hands-on technical expertise with emerging leadership capability to drive the design and delivery of M365 solutions that enhance productivity, collaboration, and security across the organization. In this role, you will take ownership of complex initiatives, act as a subject matter expert, and mentor and guide junior team members while partnering with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions. Outcomes and Activities This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member. Lead the design, configuration, and deployment of Microsoft 365 solutions across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and related services. Evaluate and recommend new Microsoft 365 tools, features, and capabilities to improve collaboration, productivity, and security for the organization. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for multiple M365 applications and processes, providing advanced troubleshooting and escalated support to the IT organization and end users. Manage and optimize Azure Active Directory, AAD Connect, Azure App Proxy, and hybrid identity integrations with on-premises Active Directory. Design and implement automation solutions using PowerShell to reduce manual effort and drive operational consistency across the M365 environment. Oversee the health, availability, and performance of M365 services; proactively identify and resolve issues before they impact end users. Collaborate closely with the Service Desk, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure a seamless and high-quality end-user experience. Create and maintain thorough documentation for processes, procedures, configurations, and runbooks. Take an active role in major incidents, providing expert-level diagnosis and resolution while communicating effectively with stakeholders. Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises and maintain up-to-date recovery documentation. Provide on-call and after-hours support for change management, maintenance, and critical troubleshooting. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. As an owner, you understand the business and your domain(s) deeply and solve for the right outcome for the domain(s) and the business. Requirements 5+ years of IT experience, with at least 4 years focused on Microsoft 365 administration and engineering. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, and security and compliance tools. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting proficiency to automate and manage Microsoft 365 environments. Experience working in hybrid environments, including integration with on-premises Active Directory and Azure AD / Azure AD Connect. Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 security features such as MFA, conditional access, and threat protection. Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Windows infrastructure (DNS, DHCP, GPOs, Certificates). Intermediate knowledge of integrations between Azure offerings and mobile devices (iOS, Android). Ability to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and work nights and weekends as needed. Preferred: AI & Copilot Technologies Experience administering or deploying Microsoft 365 Copilot, including license management, user enablement, and adoption programs. Experience measuring and reporting on Copilot adoption, including defining success metrics, analyzing usage data, and driving enablement programs that move active use rates. Familiarity with Copilot extensibility features such as Copilot Studio, custom agents, and prompt engineering for enterprise use cases. Hands-on experience with AI assistant platforms such as Claude (Anthropic) or similar enterprise AI tools, including configuration, integration, and end-user rollout. Experience with Google Workspace administration (Gmail, Drive, Meet, Docs, Sheets), including tenant management, migration, and cross-platform interoperability with M365. Understanding AI governance, responsible use policies, and data privacy considerations when deploying AI tools in a corporate environment. Experience building or supporting AI-powered workflows that connect M365 services with AI platforms (e.g., Power Automate flows leveraging Copilot, API integrations with LLM tools). Other Technical Experience Experience with Proofpoint archiving and email security. Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI). Experience with SharePoint administration and site architecture. Familiarity with ServiceNow and/or Workday. Microsoft 365 certifications (e.g., MS-100, MS-101, MS-700, MS-900, SC-300) or AI-related certifications. Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated ability to independently resolve complex technical problems and lead to troubleshooting for critical M365 issues. Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data, metrics, and KPIs to drive platform health decisions. Emerging leadership and mentoring capabilities, with a desire to invest in the growth of junior team members. Excellent communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment, with a focus on continuous improvement. Proactive mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and optimization within the M365 environment. Ability to collaborate across teams to ensure M365 initiatives align with broader organizational strategies. Demonstrated experience evaluating AI and productivity technologies (Microsoft Copilot, enterprise AI assistants, Google Workspace) for organizational fit, adoption readiness, and measurable business impact. Target Compensation: A competitive base salary range from $104,920 – $153,883. This position is eligible for an annual variable cash bonus, between 7.5 - 15%. Bonus amounts are based on individual performance. Final compensation within the range is influenced by many factors including role-specific skills, depth and experience level, industry background, relevant education and certifications.
