[Remote] Mechanical Engineer 2 (NSSS Component Design)

NuScale Power is a company focused on nuclear energy solutions, and they are seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2 to contribute to the design of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS). The role involves preparing engineering specifications, collaborating with peers on design decisions, and ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and review engineering specifications, reports, and other documentation that communicates the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS
  • Utilizes the results from BPVC Section III evaluations to optimize component design
  • Collaborates with peers in different organizations and engage in the engineering change control process to ensure design decisions are well-communicated and well-understood
  • Reviews design work of other groups (within and outside of the NuScale organization) to gain and maintain an understanding of how components, systems, and structures will work together
  • Speaks to the design of NSSS Components in discussions with manufacturing partners to ensure design intent is maintained while fabrication of components is considered
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time relevant working experience (1 year if accompanied by an advanced engineering degree) is required
  • Applicable experience includes the development of technical designs through preparing engineering specifications, preparing models/drawings, performing stress analysis, and/or interfacing with suppliers/subcontractors for engineering solutions
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and reviews information appropriately
  • Listens carefully and speaks clearly and professionally in all situations
  • Edits work for accuracy and clarity, is able to create, read and interpret complex written information
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities, organizes personal and project timelines and deadlines, tracks project timelines and deadlines, and uses time efficiently
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent interruptions, changes, delays, or unexpected events
  • Consistently on time and at work, responds to management expectations and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Capable of developing strong interpersonal networks and trust within the organization
  • Adheres to the NuScale Safety culture and is expected to model safe behavior and influence peers to meet high standards
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred
  • Design experience with commercial nuclear components or BPVC Section III is preferred
