The Opportunity: Part-Time Statistics Analyst I

Role Overview

The Information and Data Collection department at arenaflex produces elite information, insights, and storytelling to ensure sports fans trust arenaflex for depth and perspective. The Statistics Analyst I position is a part-time role within the Information and Analysis team within arenaflex's Information and Data Collection division. Scores and statistics on virtually all arenaflex platforms - television graphics, The Bottom Line, arenaflex.com, Fantasy, GameCast - are produced or maintained by the Information and Analysis team. Statistics Analyst Is ensure the accuracy of this data (scores, schedules, standings, statistics, etc.) on arenaflex platforms worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure Data Accuracy: Guarantee sports information distributed by Information and Data is accurate, timely, and insightful across all arenaflex platforms
• Real-Time Data Management: Work in individual settings and in teams to deliver accurate detailed breakdowns, clock-and-score, and various metrics and data in real-time that power millions of arenaflex products and productions
• Platform Knowledge Development: Create and maintain an active knowledge of Information and Data's role in fueling arenaflex digital products and television productions
• Quality Assurance: Check the results of one's own work and that of others; perform with a consistently high level of attention to detail
• Process Improvement: Contribute to production, projects, and initiatives across the newsroom, and assist newsroom leaders who coordinate full- and part-time staff
• Problem Solving: Anticipate potential issues, both daily and long-term, and develop possible solutions; communicate clearly and decisively with colleagues on these issues
• Collaboration: Play a proactive role in facilitating partnerships in developing or refining production processes
• Team Participation: Be an active participant in team and department meetings
• Performance Feedback: Seek and respond to feedback regarding personal performance
• Policy Compliance: Stay informed about current departmental policies and procedures
• Data Analysis: Aid in transforming statistics into storylines; recognize statistical events that help explain why a team won or lost

Essential Qualifications

• Sports Knowledge: Working knowledge of teams, players, and the rules of multiple sports
• Availability: Full schedule availability, which will include evenings (exclusively), weekends, and holidays
• Adaptability: Ability to quickly learn production processes that produce and/or maintain sports data that drives arenaflex's digital and television products
• Attention to Detail: Ability to achieve a high level of content accuracy in time-sensitive production situations
• Communication Skills: Ability to communicate confidently - verbally and in writing - to production managers and colleagues about production issues and opportunities, often through the noise of a busy newsroom

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: 1+ years' working in sports and/or statistics, preferably in media
• Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of how sports data is used in media and for research purposes
• Product Familiarity: Working knowledge of arenaflex products and productions
• Technical Skills: Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products
• Leadership Experience: Experience leading or coaching a team
• Bilingual Skills: Ability to speak and write Spanish
• Social Media: Experience using social media in a business or news environment

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education

• College degree or equivalent
• Additional education in mathematics, economics, statistics, computer science, or related fields
