LPN/LVN 26-27 School Year-CA Licensed
Job Description: Virtual LPN / LVN – California School District (Homeschool Support) We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our virtual clinical team. In this role, you will provide critical healthcare support to homeschooled students enrolled in California public school independent study programs. This is a 100% remote, work-from-home position, but candidates must hold an active, unencumbered California LVN/LPN license and reside in a compatible time zone to support California school hours. Role Overview Unlike a traditional school nurse role centered on first aid and clinic visits, this position focuses on the administrative, consultative, and collaborative side of school nursing. You will ensure that homeschooled students with medical needs have the exact same access to safe, legally compliant education as their peers in brick-and-mortar schools. You will work closely with families, virtual teachers, special education teams, and a supervising Registered Nurse (RN) to manage healthcare documentation and advocate for student wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Healthcare Plan Management & Updates
Review, update, and maintain Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with chronic conditions (e.g., Type 1 Diabetes, severe allergies, seizure disorders). Collaborate with the supervising RN to ensure all care plans comply with California Department of Education guidelines and nurse practice acts. Gather medical documentation and updated orders from students' primary care physicians.
- IEP & 504 Meeting Participation
Act as the medical representative in virtual Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 plan meetings. Translate complex medical diagnoses into actionable educational accommodations (e.g., predicting how a medication's side effects might impact a student's morning screen-time stamina). Present healthcare summaries clearly and compassionately to parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Consultations & Family Support
Conduct virtual health consults with homeschool parents to assess student needs and address safety concerns related to remote learning or mandatory in-person testing days. Provide health education resources to families to support the student’s academic success at home. Serve as a liaison between the school district and the family's private healthcare providers. Qualifications & Requirements License: Active, unrestricted license as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California. Education: Graduate of an accredited practical/vocational nursing program. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience. Prior experience in school nursing, pediatric home health, or public health is highly preferred. IEP/504 Knowledge: Familiarity with the special education process, IEP meetings, and California education health mandates is a major plus. Tech Literacy: Proficiency with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams), electronic health records (EHR), and school documentation software (e.g., SEIS). Workspace: A private, secure home office setup that complies with HIPAA and FERPA privacy regulations (quiet environment, reliable high-speed internet). Skills for Success Communication is Key: Because you won't see these students in person, your ability to "read between the lines" during video consults and build strong, trusting relationships with parents via phone and email is critical. Self-Directed: Able to manage a caseload independently, meet strict district compliance deadlines, and organize your own daily schedule. Collaborative: Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team spanning teachers, therapists, psychologists, and administrators. Adaptable: Ready to pivot between clinical documentation review and supportive parent coaching. Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
