What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in our Engineering Group, you'll be responsible for providing comprehensive engineering support for the maintenance and operation of aircraft and related equipment. Your role is multifaceted and requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking. Here's what you can expect:
- Technical Leadership: Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to other engineers within your area of specialization. Provide guidance, training, and support to help team members develop their technical skills and advance their careers.
- Procedure Development: Create customized methods, special instructions, and detailed procedures for repairs, modifications, inspections, adjustments, and other maintenance activities that aren't adequately addressed in existing manuals. Your solutions will be used by maintenance teams across the organization.
- Issue Resolution: Investigate aircraft and component issues that could cause delays, cancellations, significant labor or material costs, or interruptions in maintenance activities. Analyze problems thoroughly and determine appropriate corrective actions to restore aircraft to serviceable status.
- Daily Operations Support: Stay informed about day-to-day airline operations within your field of responsibility. Review daily needs according to aircraft and departmental targets and management mandates. Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth execution of engineering processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other aircraft divisions, maintenance teams, and regulatory agencies as needed to accommodate effective and efficient execution of engineering activities. Build relationships that drive success.
- Documentation Management: Prepare engineering documentation to implement technical procedures by providing customized methods for repairs, modifications, inspections, or other maintenance activities that provide benefits according to aircraft and departmental targets.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current knowledge of existing and forthcoming regulations that affect your areas of responsibility. Ensure all engineering activities maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Project Management: Lead project management or issue resolution efforts. Coordinate with manufacturers and regulatory specialists as required to ensure engineering practices are properly validated according to material regulations and company manuals.
- Continuous Learning: Use available resources to build levels of technical expertise and practical experience continuously. Improve communication skills, time management, and other personal characteristics relevant to maximum effectiveness and efficiency in performing assigned duties.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Actively engage with frontline colleagues and management equally. Respond to demands from Maintenance and other airline divisions when technical support is needed to support operations or resolve issues.
What We're Looking For: Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited institution. We value the foundation that formal education provides.
- Experience: One year of engineering experience in a related field OR two years of experience without a degree. We understand that real-world experience is invaluable, and we encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds to apply.
- Certification: Current Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license – this is essential for understanding the practical aspects of aircraft maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Education: Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry Experience: Previous experience in airline engineering, MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) operations, or aircraft manufacturing.
- Technical Training: Completion of manufacturer-specific training programs or advanced certification in specialized aircraft systems.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations, EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) standards, or equivalent international aviation authorities.
- Project Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional teams or managing complex engineering projects from conception to completion.
