Project Manager, Advisory

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Camelot Energy Group (Camelot) is on a mission to power a just and sustainable society with clean energy. We’re hiring a Project Manager who thrives in a technical and market consulting environment, helping clients solve a wide range of challenges as they invest in solar, energy storage, and other clean energy technologies and projects.

About Us

Camelot, founded in 2022, is a new technical and strategic advisory firm supporting asset owners and investors in the clean energy space. Our clients build, own, and operate solar and energy storage projects and we help them by providing technical due diligence, owner’s engineering, strategic advisory, and other bespoke support. Our core values of courage, empathy, integrity, and service are at the heart of our business and support our mission of accelerating the pace of clean energy adoption to build a just and sustainable society. Camelot’s founder, Shawn Shaw, is a 20+ year veteran of the solar and energy storage industry, with experience ranging from supporting state incentive programs to supporting some of the largest banks and financiers on their most challenging project finance transactions. Shawn has built, trained, and nurtured consulting teams throughout his career and founded Camelot to be a human-centric consultancy that values trust, flexibility, and mentorship. Shawn is supported by a robust team of industry leaders and mentors who all have 10+ years of detailed experience in the clean energy sector, from development through construction and asset management. Our leadership team boasts a collective 30 GWh of energy storage experience with a wide range of technologies and markets prior to joining Camelot. The Camelot team has over 130 years of combined experience in the clean energy sector and has made an outsized impact on the industry for a group of our size. We have directly supported with over 30 GWh of energy storage projects (both standalone and hybrid), performed M&A due diligence on over 8 GW of assets, and have seen our Independent Engineering work accepted by several US-based financial institutions. Camelot aims to continue this growth trajectory while retaining the nimble nature of the team. About the Position The Project Manager is a member of our Advisory team and a contributor to Camelot's delivery quality and technical credibility. This role blends traditional project management with hands-on technical execution. Depending on skillset, the PM will not only manage project scope, schedule, stakeholders, and deliverables, but may also own key technical workstreams and analyses, in collaboration with Camelot's Technical Services team. At Camelot, our Project Managers often roll up their sleeves and do technical work, and our clients value working closely with technically savvy project managers. This position supports our clients in delivering and operating clean energy projects (primarily solar and energy storage), with a primary focus on operational and late-stage assets, while also supporting projects across earlier stages from development through construction and commissioning. The PM will work under the guidance of senior staff on more complex engagements while taking direct ownership of smaller to moderately complex projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Support advisory efforts related to technical performance and reliability for operating assets (solar, storage, and hybrid), including KPI definition, root-cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and coordination with OEMs, integrators, and O&M providers. Evaluate and align technical and operating agreements (e.g., O&M, LTSA, warranties, guarantees) and translate contractual requirements into practical monitoring and operations processes. Perform technical due diligence on clean energy projects, including preparing independent engineering reports where required. Represent owners in oversight of project procurement, design, construction, and commissioning. Support technical procurement activities (e.g., ESS RFPs and scope development), including technical evaluation, comparison of vendor approaches, and CapEx/OpEx inputs where relevant. Support asset owners in managing supply chains and implementing strategic changes to their business models. During a typical day, the Project Manager will balance stakeholder management with technical work. This may include leading client and vendor calls, coordinating schedules and deliverables, and producing clear written work products, while also reviewing drawings and specifications, analyzing operational data, validating performance assumptions, and developing recommendations that improve asset outcomes. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between structured project execution and hands-on technical problem solving, and is eager to grow into broader strategic advisory responsibilities over time. Other tasks include supporting senior staff, mentoring junior staff, and (of course) being sure to take some time for rest, exercise, and non-work activities. The work can be fast paced at times, but we proactively manage our clients, project intake, workload, and staff to create a positive working environment that leads to better results. About You We are seeking a team member to fill a role that blends organization and frequent client interaction with technical tasks such as analyzing project economics, technologies, and contracts. Recognizing that this is a broad skill set, we will be happy to provide the right candidate with training and support in filling gaps, but we fundamentally seek a candidate with the following attributes: Education: We are seeking a candidate with a 4-year degree from an accredited degree program or equivalent hands-on experience. Our preference is for candidates with technical educations in engineering, mathematics, or physical sciences but other backgrounds will be considered. Experience: A successful candidate will have at least 2–5 years of experience working in solar, energy storage, or clean energy consulting, project development, integration, applications engineering, asset management, or similar roles. Experience across multiple stages of the project lifecycle, from development through operations, is valued, and experience with hybrid solar+storage projects is a nice-to-have. A mix of analytical and externally-facing experience will be required to be successful in this role. Applicants with additional years of experience may be considered for a more senior position and are still encouraged to apply. Competencies: Given the varied nature of our projects and clients, we seek a candidate with the following competencies: Project management, involving stakeholder coordination, schedule oversight, budget management, and similarly complex engagements in a project development, construction, and/or consulting capacity. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a willingness to communicate challenging technical topics to a variety of audiences. Leading and organizing teams of individual contributors and subject matter experts to deliver work products. Experience with performance and reliability engineering for operating energy assets, including diagnosing underperformance, isolating failure modes, and tracking corrective actions through closure. Familiarity with solar inverter and BESS controls and communications concepts (e.g., EMS/BMS interactions), and willingness to develop comfort validating operational changes, firmware/software updates, or control strategy adjustments in coordination with vendors. Ability to review technical receivables such as single-line diagrams, network/communications diagrams, and commissioning documentation (tooling may include AutoCAD or similar). Experience guiding or participating in factory/site acceptance testing and commissioning activities for novel controls or monitoring systems. Familiarity with Python (or similar) for lightweight automation or analysis is a plus, in addition to proficiency in Excel modeling. Understanding of energy storage and solar system costs, performance, and supply chain considerations; Familiarity with solar and energy storage project development process and major agreements; Ability to quickly organize and digest information, and speak eloquently with a diverse audience; Strong proficiency in MS Office suite; Familiarity with regional incentive programs such as NY VDER, MA SMART, and others is preferred. Must be able to research programs and their financial implications as the need arises. Although not a requirement, familiarity with solar and storage system modeling software is a plus. This includes tools used across multiple project stages, such as PVsyst, Helioscope, SolarFarmer, SAM, or similar packages. Inclinations: The role will involve remote work, and the majority of the tasks will be completed in an office setting, with some periodic need for fieldwork, travel for meetings, and similar activities. Comfort with working remotely, interacting over video conferencing platforms, and operating independently will be necessary. This role will also require flexibility in switching between tasks and priorities quickly. An ideal candidate will be inclined to suggest and implement new processes or services as opportunities arise. Location: This position is open to those permanently residing in the U.S., but work location is remote and completely flexible otherwise. Sponsorship: Camelot values diversity and we are open to sponsoring qualified individuals on a case-by-case basis. Our Commitment to Ethical AI Use Camelot Energy Group leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance technical research and clean energy advisory services, but we maintain strict ethical standards in doing so: Human-Centered Expertise – All technical recommendations and results are reviewed and validated by our experts; AI is used only as a decision-support tool. Respect for Creative Work – All photographs, images, and visual materials in our reports and marketing are sourced from licensed, human-created content. Integrity and Transparency – We review, edit, and fact-check AI-assisted content to avoid plagiarism and misrepresentation. Client Confidentiality – We do not enter sensitive or proprietary client data into public AI tools. By following these principles, Camelot Energy Group ensures that AI enhances, not replaces, human expertise, while respecting the intellectual property of creators and maintaining the highest standard of professional ethics. Particulars Camelot is not a typical consulting firm. We are looking for great people and we strongly believe that the main job of our leadership team is to bring in great people, support them, and then get obstacles out of their way. We reject the notion that consulting has to mean unending long days, 24/7 responsiveness, or pointless metrics. Our goal is that you enjoy your work and have a chance to make a real impact on solving the world’s energy challenges with a minimum of pointless activity during your typical day. Reporting: This position will report to a Senior Project Manager or Director of Advisory, with significant communication across junior and senior staff. Salary: The salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000 per year. Yes, we put that in the job description. We do this because we dislike haggling over salary as much as you do and because we believe in transparency. For the right candidate that is more (or less) experienced than noted above, we will consider an adjusted salary that reflects your experience. Annual Incentive: The position will be eligible to participate in Camelot’s Incentive Program, which includes, subject to company and personal performance: Company Performance Incentive: All employees receive an incentive when the company meets its annual profit targets Business Development Incentive: Employees originating new business may be eligible to receive a share of invoiced revenues from that new business Personal Performance Incentive: An individual bonus based on personal performance against goals Other ad hoc performance bonuses may be given at the discretion of the CEO, from time to time Health Benefits: We offer a selection of health, dental, and vision plans that you can choose from. We also offer access, and encourage the use of, virtual/online mental healthcare services. Camelot provides each eligible employee with a stipend of up to $1,200 per month ($600 per pay period) towards insurance premiums, including health, dental, and vision plans. Employees may apply this stipend towards their selected plans, with this amount selected to generally cover typical premiums for a single person’s health, dental, and vision plans. Please note that you will be eligible to sign up for insurance upon your start date and TriNet provides a 30-day window in which you can select your chosen coverage. So long as coverage is selected in this 30-day window, your coverage effective date is either: The first day of your hire month if you start on or before the 15th of the month or The first day of the following month if your hire date falls after the 15th of the month Insurance information, such as would normally be found on a physical insurance card, will be available in your TriNet dashboard shortly after enrolling. TriNet “Enrich” Benefits: Camelot has subscribed to a suite of benefits from TriNet known as “Enrich”. This suite includes Enrich Access, Enrich Adopt, Enrich Disaster Relief, and Enrich Learn. Each benefit is described generally below but please reference the Enrich documents at TriNet for the more formal description and instructions for accessing these benefits. Support for Reproductive Healthcare (Enrich Access Program): At Camelot, we acknowledge the fundamental right of our team members to make healthcare choices that align with their personal values and medical needs. As some states where our employees reside may elect to restrict or limit access to certain reproductive health options including access to abortions, contraceptives, or related services, Camelot will provide financial support to employees wishing to seek such services in other locations. This support includes time off as reasonably required to attend relevant treatments, and financial reimbursement up to $1,950 (pre-tax) per calendar year to cover out-of-pocket costs associated with travel needed to receive treatments. For the avoidance of doubt, it is our firm belief that these services should be available to all who need them, and this policy aims to reduce the burden on those who are forced to seek such treatments outside their state of residence. Furthermore, this benefit extends to employee dependents, spouses, and domestic partners (of any gender). Adoption Incentive (Enrich Adopt Program): Employees may receive up to $5,000 per tax year related to one adoption to reimburse eligible expenses such as agency fees, legal fees, or travel expenses. Disaster Relief (Enrich Disaster Relief Program): Employees may receive up to $1,000 per year to cover disaster relief related expenses not already covered by relevant insurance. Camelot will provide this benefit to employees in the order applications are received up to a maximum of $5,000 per year company-wide limit. Tuition Reimbursement (Enrich Learn Program): Employees may receive reimbursement for qualifying educational expenses related to attending courses. While this may mean pursuing an advanced degree, employees may receive reimbursement for courses taken outside a formal degree program. Moreover, this benefit also covers materials and fees associated with such courses, as well as the tuition itself. Please refer to the documents at TriNet for a full summary of eligible expenses. Note also that some loan payments may be eligible for this benefit. In this way, employees may receive this benefit over several years to more fully cover a higher cost educational program. The maximum benefit for this program is set at the IRS limit of $5,250 per year. Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance: Though we hope to never need it, we provide each employee with a small life/AD&D insurance policy at no cost. This policy has a value of $50,000. Employees may purchase additional coverage, if desired. Retirement Benefits: We offer a competitive 401(k) program via Empower, which is integrated with our TriNet platform. Empower offers a range of investment options and Camelot provides 100% matching contributions up to 4% of employee salary. There is a small annual service fee of $63 that each employee will have deducted from their paychecks for Empower. (Please note that if the maximum allowable yearly contribution is selected, Empower automatically assumes you mean 100% of your paycheck and will contribute that amount until the maximum is reached.) PTO: We believe that overly managed schedules are a painful part of business and an unnecessary one. We offer our team members unlimited PTO and, in fact, require that all team members take a minimum of two weeks’ PTO per year. Rest and recreation are key to wellbeing and, selfishly, to your job performance. We trust our team members to balance their work priorities with time off and we offer as much flexibility as we can in setting work schedules with everyone. Parental leave is also supported under our unlimited PTO policy and handled on a case-by-case basis. We do ask that employees enjoy this benefit responsibly and work closely with their manager and colleagues to ensure that time taken does not negatively impact the business and our clients. Holidays: In addition to offering all members of our team unlimited PTO, Camelot closes business on the following U.S. Federal Holidays: New Year’s Day Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Washington’s Birthday Memorial Day Juneteenth Independence Day Labor Day Columbus Day (Indigenous Peoples Day) Veteran’s Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Employees may replace Christmas with a floating holiday, if desired. Camelot celebrates a wide diversity in religious and spiritual views among members of our team and strives to provide a welcoming environment to people of all faiths, creeds, and backgrounds. Connectivity Stipend: All full-time personnel will receive a monthly non-taxable stipend of $200 added to their payroll. This is intended to partly offset costs associated with internet connection, cell phone, or similar items. We understand that employees will generally have these services whether they work here or not but we also recognize that there may be added costs associated with using such services for business purposes. Office Supplies Stipend: As part of onboarding, full-time employees will be equipped with a laptop and the following accessories as required: up to two 27” external monitors, Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, external keyboard, monitor stand, and docking station. Additionally, all full-time personnel are given an allowance of $300 per year, available in the first year of employment, for any other major office supplies. These funds can be used to purchase office decorations, supplies, furniture, or just about anything else reasonably required to make your working space more comfortable. Travel Services Reimbursement: Travel can be stressful, whether for business or personal reasons. All Camelot team members who wish to obtain TSA PreCheck status will be eligible to have the associated registration fee(s) reimbursed. This includes both the initial fees, and any fees associated with renewing this service that are incurred while employed at Camelot, even if you rarely travel on company business. Equivalent services, such as Global Entry, may receive partial reimbursement up to the current cost of TSA PreCheck. We can’t make airports any more pleasant to visit but if we can help our team members spend less time in security lines, we are happy to do so. Professional Development: We strongly believe in supporting the growth of our people as they build expertise in the clean energy industry. As such, Camelot will provide the following Professional Development benefits: Reimbursement for testing and registration fees for approved and relevant industry certifications, including those offered by the North American Board of Certified Energy Professionals (NABCEP) and state level professional engineering (PE) licensing bodies. Employees who are reimbursed for testing costs but do not receive a passing score may only be reimbursed for an additional test. Reimbursement for renewals of approved certifications Each employee will have an annual budget of up to $500 for role-relevant trainings and, if applicable, Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required to maintain certificates and licenses. This amount is reset on January 1 of every year of employment, so employees are encouraged to make full use of this benefit each year. Total employee-guided Professional Development reimbursement will be capped at $1,200 per calendar year, based on any combination of reimbursement for testing, registration, renewals, and continuing education expenses. In addition, from time to time, Camelot may offer employees additional training opportunities and employees are encouraged to request additional training that they feel is relevant and useful. Such additional training will be at the discretion of the management team and based on relevant business priorities at that time. Other Elective Benefits: Our access to the Trinet platform offers a range of elective benefits that employees may enroll in, if desired. These include: Supplemental Life Insurance Short/long-term Disability Insurance Flexible Spending Accounts Accidental Death/Dismemberment Insurance Accident/Critical Illness Insurance Discounted Home and Auto Insurance Legal Advisory Services Employee Assistance Program and Health Advocacy Service Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is: We work in the clean energy space and are trying to build a better world.
