About arenaflex

arenaflex is a global leader in instrument management services, dedicated to advancing the safety, efficiency, and reliability of sterile processing across the healthcare continuum. With a legacy of innovation and a commitment to partnership, arenaflex works hand‑in‑hand with hospitals, surgical centers, and health systems to ensure that every instrument, from the simplest scalpel to the most complex robotic arm, is processed to the highest standards of sterility and functionality. Our mission is to empower clinical teams with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to deliver exceptional patient care while controlling costs and driving continuous improvement.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dynamic, customer‑focused Sterile Processing Customer Specialist to join our Instrument Management Services division in Detroit, Michigan. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary liaison between arenaflex and our hospital partners, delivering expert training, identifying cost‑containment opportunities, and championing process enhancements that elevate the quality of sterile processing. Your expertise will directly influence the safety of surgical environments, the efficiency of operating rooms, and the overall financial health of our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Training

  • Conduct on‑site and virtual training sessions for surgical technicians, nurses, and physicians, covering best practices in sterile processing, instrument handling, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop customized training curricula that address the unique workflow, equipment, and staffing configurations of each hospital.
  • Serve as the subject‑matter expert during product demonstrations, onboarding of new sterilization technologies, and implementation of arenaflex service solutions.
  • Maintain detailed training records, evaluate participant performance, and provide actionable feedback to improve competency.

Cost Containment & Process Improvement

  • Analyze current sterile processing workflows to uncover inefficiencies, waste, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and clinical staff to design and implement process improvements that reduce turnaround time, lower re‑processing rates, and extend instrument lifespan.
  • Prepare and present data‑driven business cases that quantify savings, ROI, and quality enhancements resulting from recommended changes.
  • Monitor post‑implementation performance metrics and adjust strategies to ensure sustained improvement.

Technical Support & Advisory

  • Provide timely, expert guidance on equipment troubleshooting, maintenance schedules, and compliance with industry standards such as AAMI, ISO 13485, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping hospitals navigate regulatory audits, accreditation processes, and infection control initiatives.
  • Document and track customer issues in arenaflex’s CRM system, ensuring resolution within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with arenaflex sales, product development, and quality assurance teams to relay customer insights, market trends, and emerging needs.
  • Participate in internal workshops and knowledge‑sharing sessions to continuously refine our service offerings.
  • Represent arenaflex at industry conferences, trade shows, and professional societies, enhancing brand visibility and thought leadership.

Essential Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional post‑secondary education in health sciences, biomedical technology, or a related field is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably within a clinical environment such as a hospital central sterile services department (CSSD) or a medical device service organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver compelling presentations to diverse audiences, including surgical technicians, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capacity to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Proven track record of identifying and implementing cost‑saving initiatives in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems (LMS), and basic data analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Assets

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Certification such as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Healthcare Central Service Technician (CHCST).
  • Experience with lean, Six Sigma, or other process‑improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with sterilization technologies (e.g., steam, low‑temperature hydrogen peroxide, plasma) and instrument tracking software.
  • Ability to travel within the Detroit metropolitan area and occasionally to regional sites, with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Passion for delivering exceptional service and building long‑term relationships.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to assess data, identify trends, and formulate evidence‑based recommendations.
  • Instructional Design: Skill in creating engaging, adult‑learning‑focused training materials.
  • Problem Solving: Quick, decisive action when addressing equipment issues or workflow bottlenecks.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working across functional teams and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to thrive in a fast‑changing environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Structured mentorship programs pairing you with senior clinical consultants and industry veterans.
  • Continuous education subsidies, including tuition reimbursement for relevant certifications or degree programs.
  • Regular internal workshops on emerging sterilization technologies, regulatory updates, and advanced process‑improvement techniques.
  • Opportunities to lead cross‑functional projects that can fast‑track you into senior advisory or regional management roles.
  • Participation in national conferences such as the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), with full travel support.
