Part-Time Commercial Solar Designer & Project Support, 20 hrs/wk, Helioscope, AutoCAD, NEC Code Book - Contract to Hire
We are SolarcoEnergy.com, a California-based company specializing exclusively in commercial solar (no residential). We recently achieved 8A status and are actively winning and delivering federal contracts (primarily design work) alongside our standard commercial projects in California and elsewhere. We need a reliable part-time team member (exactly 20 hours per week, ongoing) who can handle technical solar design, code-compliant electrical engineering, and project collaboration/support tasks. Key Responsibilities: Create commercial solar PV designs using Aurora Solar and Helioscope (layouts, shading analysis, production modeling, stringing) Produce full AutoCAD permit plan packages for commercial systems: site plans, PV array layouts, mounting/structural details, single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, etc. Ensure all designs are compliant with National Electrical Code (NEC) and California electrical and building codes to reduce corrections and delays during submittals Collaborate on projects: coordinate with our US PE/engineers, support design revisions, and participate in internal discussions Handle customer and service correspondence related to design aspects Manage company project files: organize, update, and track different versions of plansets and related documentation Requirements (All are mandatory): Electrical Engineering background — preferably a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience as a solar PV electrical designer Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California electrical/building codes (this is critical for producing accurate, low-correction plansets) Proven experience with commercial solar PV design (rooftop, carport, ground-mount preferred) Expert proficiency in Aurora Solar, Helioscope, and AutoCAD for full permit-ready packages Good experience in project file management, version control, and organizing technical documentation Excellent written and spoken English for customer correspondence, team collaboration, and clear communication Familiarity with federal/government/military project design standards is a big plus Reliable availability for 20 hours per week with some overlap to California PDT business hours Long-term commitment preferred — you will be treated as a valued part-time extension of our team Preferred Locations: Candidates from the Philippines or India (our previous designer from India had very good English and performed excellently).
