Position Summary Mylo Mortgage is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join our growing team. In this fully remote role, you will be responsible for analyzing and decisioning residential mortgage loan applications in accordance with agency guidelines, investor requirements, and company credit policy. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across conventional, FHA, and government loan programs, a commitment to quality and compliance, and the drive to consistently meet production benchmarks in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of residential mortgage underwriting experience, with demonstrated proficiency in conventional loan products
  • Expert-level command of Fannie Mae Selling Guide and Freddie Mac Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guide
  • Proficiency with DU (Desktop Underwriter) and LPA (Loan Product Advisor) automated underwriting systems
  • Ability to underwrite manual files in compliance with applicable agency guidelines
  • Active HUD Direct Endorsement (DE) designation with a minimum of 5 years of FHA underwriting experience
  • Thorough knowledge of HUD Handbook 4000.1 and all current Mortgagee Letters, including ML 2025-09
  • Experience with FHA TOTAL Scorecard decisions including refers and manual downgrades
  • Demonstrated ability to underwrite to multiple aggregator and investor overlays simultaneously
  • Consistent track record of meeting or exceeding industry-standard underwriting KPIs
  • Minimum file decision turnaround time of 24–48 hours (purchase priority)

Preferred Qualifications

  • VA Credit/Supervised Automatic Underwriter (SAR) designation
  • Familiarity with VA Lender’s Handbook (VA Pamphlet 26-7) and IRRRL guidelines
  • Experience issuing Notices of Value (NOVs) and navigating Tidewater Initiative procedures
  • USDA Rural Development underwriting experience
  • Jumbo and Non-QM underwriting experience
  • Experience with Encompass LOS or comparable enterprise loan origination system
  • Prior involvement in appraisal review or compliance functions

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and decision residential mortgage loan applications for conventional, FHA, and other applicable loan types in compliance with agency guidelines, investor overlays, and company credit policy
  • Evaluate borrower creditworthiness through thorough analysis of income documentation, asset verification, credit history, title, appraisal, and all applicable risk factors
  • Render clear, well-documented credit decisions—approvals, suspensions, denials, or counter-offers—within established turnaround time standards
  • Issue precise, actionable condition letters that minimize unnecessary re-submissions and support a smooth closing pipeline
  • Underwrite to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and all applicable aggregator and investor overlays, staying current on guideline updates and policy changes
  • Collaborate with Loan Officers, Processors, and Operations staff to resolve file deficiencies in a professional, solution-focused manner
  • Maintain detailed loan-level documentation in compliance with regulatory and investor requirements
  • Complete all assigned files within turnaround time benchmarks while maintaining high decision accuracy and data integrity

Technical Knowledge Requirements

  • Fannie Mae Selling Guide — income, assets, credit, eligibility, and property requirements
  • Freddie Mac Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guide — including LPA findings and manual underwriting protocols
  • HUD Handbook 4000.1 — FHA underwriting, appraisal requirements, and case management
  • Aggregator and correspondent investor overlay matrices
  • Appraisal review: ability to identify red flags, condition appropriateness, and comparable selection issues
  • Income analysis: all employment types including W-2, self-employed (1084/1084B analysis), rental income, retirement, and non-traditional sources
  • Asset documentation and large deposit sourcing requirements across agency programs

Performance Standards (Industry-Standard KPIs) Metric Decision Turnaround Time 24–48 hours for purchases; 48–72 hours for refinances Investor Repurchase Rate At or below company and industry benchmarks

Work Environment

  • This is a fully remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
  • Candidates must maintain a reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated, professional workspace.
  • Core availability expected during standard business hours (Central Time preferred); flexibility may be required to support pipeline needs.
