- 0–3 years of experience preferred.
- Must possess a graduate degree in Linguistics or a closely related linguistic discipline.
- Degrees in Literature, English, or Computer Science-only programs will not qualify.
About the Role
We are seeking a Linguist III to support multilingual AI and Responsible AI research initiatives within FAIR. This role combines theoretical linguistics, multilingual analysis, NLP exposure, and AI model evaluation in a research-focused environment. The ideal candidate will have strong linguistic foundations, multilingual fluency, coding ability, and experience analyzing linguistic datasets or AI-generated outputs while collaborating with engineers and research scientists. Core Must-Haves (Non-Negotiable)
- Graduate degree in Linguistics (MA/MS minimum required)
o NOT Literature or English o NOT Computer Science/NLP-only degree
- 0–3 years of experience
- Near-native fluency in at least one non-English language
o Preferred: Vietnamese, Dutch, Portuguese, or Thai
- Strong theoretical foundations in:
o Syntax o Morphology o Sociolinguistics o Pragmatics o Phonology o Corpus Linguistics o Language Typology
- Python programming experience (mandatory)
- SQL knowledge
- NLP exposure or experience
- Experience analyzing linguistic datasets or AI model outputs
- Strong academic and research communication skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with ML/NLP researchers, engineers, and data scientists
Responsibilities
- Perform linguistic analyses on large multilingual datasets
- Conduct linguistic error analysis on AI/LLM model outputs
- Identify recurring linguistic error categories and severity patterns
- Create and revise annotation and translation guidelines
- Conduct sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, and pragmatics research
- Analyze toxic language, hate speech, gender bias, and cultural bias across multilingual datasets
- Conduct literature reviews on NLP-adjacent and linguistics research topics
- Evaluate vendor linguistic quality and provide actionable feedback
- Collaborate with native speakers across multiple languages
- Present findings and recommendations to engineers and research scientists
- Support Responsible AI and multilingual language technology initiatives

- PhD in Linguistics
- Corpus linguistics specialization
- Research paper contributions/publications
- Experience with:
o Toxic language analysis o Hate speech analysis o Bias evaluation o Responsible AI initiatives
- Experience with low-resource languages

- R programming or additional data-analysis tools
