Senior Python Developer – Customer Portal Engineering (Remote / US-friendly Time Zones)

The Mission

Our customer portal is the key to achieving this vision, and we're looking for a skilled Senior Python Developer to join our team. As a backend force behind this self-service portal, you'll be responsible for building and owning the Python-powered APIs and microservices that drive our customer portal.

What You'll Build & Own

As a Senior Python Developer, you'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting projects, including:

• Python-powered APIs & microservices: You'll design and implement APIs and microservices using FastAPI, Django, or Flask, depending on the right tool for the job.
• Feature-rich endpoints: You'll create endpoints for provisioning numbers, managing users, running billing or usage reports, and surfacing call analytics, making it easy for business users to manage their voice services.
• Secure integration layers: You'll integrate our Asterisk-based VoIP core, carrier APIs, and third-party SaaS (Freshdesk, Odoo, Make.com, Telnyx) to ensure seamless communication between systems.
• Data pipelines & webhooks: You'll design and implement data pipelines and webhooks to push real-time events (call started, voicemail left, invoice ready) into the UI and customer CRMs, keeping customers informed and up-to-date.
• Portal performance & reliability: You'll ensure the portal performs optimally and is reliable, using profiling, load-testing, and observability to identify and resolve issues before they impact customers.
• Collaborative troubleshooting: You'll work closely with QA and front-end engineers (React) to troubleshoot bugs and edge cases, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• Delivery ownership: You'll take ownership of your work, breaking it down into manageable milestones, communicating risks early, and delivering on time without hand-holding.

You'll Thrive Here If You Have

To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess the following skills and qualities:

• 5+ years of professional Python experience: You'll have a deep understanding of Python, including asyncio, typing, and the PyPI ecosystem.
• Experience building customer-facing web apps: You'll have built at least one customer-facing web app end-to-end, including SaaS dashboards, admin consoles, or partner portals.
• API design chops: You'll have a strong grasp of REST and GraphQL API design, as well as auth flows (OAuth2, JWT) and RBAC.
• Relational DB skills: You'll have experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and be comfortable with Alembic and migrations.
• Containerized deployment know-how: You'll have experience with containerized deployment using Docker, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, or ECS.
• Self-management superpowers: You'll be able to unblock yourself, ask great questions, and document decisions, ensuring you're always moving forward.
• Deadline discipline: You'll have a strong track record of meeting deadlines, with honest estimates and commitments that match your actions.

Extra Credit

If you have experience in the following areas, you'll be at an advantage:

• B2B VoIP user journeys: You'll have a deep understanding of RingCentral, 8x8, Zoom Phone, and other B2B VoIP user journeys, allowing you to intuitively design portal features like call routing wizards or DID bulk actions.
• Experience wiring Python backends to React or Vue front-ends: You'll have experience pairing Python backends with React or Vue front-ends, speaking just enough TypeScript to collaborate effectively.
• Background in multi-tenant SaaS or usage-based billing systems: You'll have experience designing and implementing multi-tenant SaaS or usage-based billing systems, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Love for event-driven patterns: You'll have a passion for event-driven patterns, including Redis Streams, Kafka, and NATS, to keep UIs live and responsive.
