The focus of this course is to provide the learner with the theoretical and advanced application levels of how geographic information systems provide data that can be transformed into actionable intelligence. Learners develop the necessary skills to access, analyze, and communicate real-time information to support intelligence-led and evidence-based responses by public safety personnel. Further, this course is designed to encourage students to critically analyze how social issues and factors relate to the outputs of geospatial intelligence, and the potential ethical challenges of how these outputs may be misused or misapplied. Qualifications – Required: Master’s Degree Qualifications – Discipline: Public Administration, Public Safety, Criminology, Business, Geography Qualifications - Areas of Specialization: Qualifications - Professional Designation: Qualifications – Other: Doctorate preferred. Extensive research and/or work experience in the field of public safety with a focus on geospatial analysis. Course content requires certifications/experience in: A Geographic Information Specialist Designation (GISP); extensive experience using the ESRI software suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other Public Safety and/or municipal/urban planning related software; experience with and designing lab exercises for SIMSI’s Risk Terrain Modelling (RTMDx) software; experience with and designing lab exercises for ThirdEye Data’s software SAFERA 7; experience with and designing lab exercises for Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI suite software; and an understanding of and application capacity for OSINT tools within a geospatial and intelligence context. The ability to incorporate GIS-generated materials into tactical public safety analyses and dashboards is required. Experience in teaching at the graduate level, with previous experience in developing courses and/or teaching in an online environment and should be receptive to incorporating pedagogical approaches that specifically embrace online adult learners.
