Senior Database Engineer – Azure SQL Performance Specialist
Job Description:
- Analyze production database performance using Query Store, execution plans, wait stats, indexing patterns, and application telemetry.
- Review and improve SQL Server / Azure SQL configuration, indexing, query patterns, and connection usage.
- Work with .NET teams on Entity Framework performance issues, including tracking, query splitting, compiled queries, paging, bulk operations, and connection pooling.
- Identify high-impact database bottlenecks and propose safe remediation plans.
- Support production-readiness reviews for rate, quote, policy, claims, and customer-related workflows.
- Help define database standards for future modularization and service boundaries.
- Partner with DevOps and architecture teams on observability, scaling, backup, resilience, and environment strategy.
Requirements:
- Experience with SQL Server and/or Azure SQL in production environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing strategy, execution plans, query optimization, and high-volume OLTP systems.
- Experience supporting .NET / C# / Entity Framework applications.
- Azure experience: Azure SQL, App Service integrations, monitoring, Application Insights, Log Analytics, or related tooling.
- Ability to explain technical database problems in business terms.
- Insurance, fintech, banking, lending, or other regulated industry experience.
- Experience with monolith-to-modular modernization.
- Experience with high-scale quote, pricing, rating, or transaction-heavy systems.
- Knowledge of Redis, caching strategies, and distributed system performance.
