Principal Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

As a Principal Scientist, you will be expected to lead complex synthetic chemistry projects, provide strategic direction to medicinal chemistry efforts, and collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists. Your responsibilities will include designing synthetic routes, troubleshooting challenging syntheses, and interpreting SAR data to guide compound optimization. You will also play a key role in intellectual property generation and contribute to the overall scientific strategy of the drug discovery pipeline. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver with a proven track record of success in medicinal chemistry, demonstrated by impactful contributions to drug discovery projects and publications. Key responsibilities include: Leading medicinal chemistry efforts for drug discovery programs, from hit identification to lead optimization. Designing and synthesizing novel small molecules with desired pharmacological profiles. Developing and optimizing synthetic routes for complex organic molecules. Interpreting structure-activity relationship (SAR) and structure-property relationship (SPR) data to guide compound design. Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including biology, pharmacology, and DMPK. Preparing detailed reports, presentations, and contributing to patent filings. Mentoring and guiding junior chemists in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in medicinal chemistry and synthetic methodologies. Troubleshooting synthetic challenges and developing innovative solutions. Contributing to the strategic direction of the drug discovery portfolio. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, with a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical industry or a related R&D setting. A strong understanding of drug discovery processes and experience in multiple therapeutic areas is highly desirable. Demonstrated success in delivering clinical candidates is a significant advantage. Exceptional synthetic organic chemistry skills, proficiency in modern spectroscopic and analytical techniques, and strong problem-solving abilities are mandatory. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective collaboration in a remote setting.
