Adjunct Faculty — Early Childhood Education (EEAS Program)

Position Type: Adjunct, Independent Contractor (1099) — Asynchronous Online Modality: 100% online via Orbund LMS | Term Length: 5 weeks (35-day terms) | Credit Hours: 3 semester units per course About Theoria Technical College Theoria Technical College is a California-approved (BPPE), ACCJC-Candidate, ACCET-accredited private postsecondary institution offering an Early Childhood Education Associate of Science degree (EEAS) and an aligned ECE/CDA Certificate program in a fully online format. We prepare students for credentialing and employment in early childhood and child-development settings, with strong alignment to NAEYC and California Department of Education ECE workforce standards. About the Program We are building a roster of qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses across the Early Childhood Education Associate of Science (EEAS) degree program and the ECE/CDA Certificate program. Each course is a 3-unit, 5-week asynchronous offering delivered through Orbund. Hiring is by discipline match — qualified candidates may be assigned to one or more of the following courses based on credentials, experience, and availability:

  • EEAS-101 — Child Growth and Development
  • EEAS-102 — Child, Family, Community, and School Socialization
  • EEAS-103 — Early Childhood Curriculum
  • EEAS-104 — Infant and Toddler Development
  • EEAS-105 — Early Childhood Program Administration
  • EEAS-106 — Health, Safety, and Nutrition for Young Children
  • EEAS-120 — Effective Strategies for Challenging Behaviors
  • EEAS-210 — Early Childhood Special Needs Education
  • EEAS-320 — Creating Environments for Learning
  • EEAS-330 — Music and Movement
  • EEAS-410 — STEAM for Infants and Toddlers
  • EEAS-610 — Promoting Wellness and Addressing Trauma in Early Childhood

Position Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned asynchronous, instructor-facilitated EEAS or ECE/CDA courses in Orbund consistent with the institutional syllabus and course shell.
  • Maintain Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) per 34 CFR §600.2: weekly announcements, instructor-led discussion facilitation, individualized graded feedback, and timely response to student inquiries.
  • Grade student work and submit final grades within institutional timelines (10 business days for assignments; 7 days after term close for final grades).
  • Respond to student communications within 48 business hours, excluding weekends.
  • Complete required institutional training (Accreditation Responsibilities, FERPA, and others) within 30 days of engagement.
  • Participate in 90-day probationary review and annual evaluation under AOP 7.1.x.
  • Adhere to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and maintain confidentiality of all child, family, and student information.

Minimum Qualifications

For Associate-of-Science-level EEAS coursework:

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Special Education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited U.S. institution; OR
  • Master's degree in Education, Human Development, Psychology, or related field with at least 18 graduate semester units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework.

For ECE/CDA Certificate-level coursework:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, AND
  • Active CDA Credential, California Child Development Permit, or equivalent state credential, AND
  • Minimum five years of direct early childhood practice or teacher-of-teachers experience.

All EEAS / ECE-CDA candidates must also have:

  • Demonstrated postsecondary teaching experience, preferably in an online or hybrid environment.
  • Working knowledge of NAEYC standards, the California ECE Foundations, or comparable national/state frameworks.
  • Reliable computer, internet, and home-office setup compatible with Orbund.
  • U.S. work authorization (employment eligibility documentation required at offer).
  • Mandated reporter training current within the past 24 months (or willingness to complete prior to first day of instruction).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related discipline.
  • Three or more years of online undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Direct practice experience in early childhood classrooms, family child care, or early intervention settings.
  • Active California Child Development Permit (Director or Site Supervisor level) or comparable credential.
  • Experience teaching trauma-informed, inclusive, or special-needs ECE content.
  • Bilingual capability (Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other languages serving California ECE communities).
