Software Engineer

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

We’re Looking for an experienced Software Engineer! About the Company: Security Benefit is a leader in the U.S. retirement market with more than $60 billion in assets under management. We offer opportunities to thrive, innovate, and make an impact. As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in driving the future of the U.S. retirement industry. Security Benefit is a PLACE where we promise to help our customers To and Through Retirement®. We’re proud to have been recognized as one of the best in the business: Named to Ward’s 50 list of top-performing life-health insurance companies Recognized on list of Ingram’s Top 100 Private Companies in the Kansas City area in 2024 About the Role: We are building a brand new in-house Experience Service Center: a digital-first, AI-assisted operation that supports our customers in the moments that matter most. Routine inquiries are handled by self-service. The complex ones come into our Operations specialists, who open to a screen that has already classified the question, assembled the customer context, and drafted a recommended response. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will help build that screen, and the workflows, integrations, and back office tooling behind it. You will work on a modern AWS serverless stack with a Snowflake-backed data layer, integrate with our internal generative AI platform and our core policy administration systems, and ship code that operations specialists rely on every minute of the workday. The Experience Service Center is one of the most visible builds at Security Benefit this year, and you will be in on the ground floor. This role is fully remote. The Software Engineer reports to the Head of AI and Innovation. Work up and down the full stack to ship features end to end, from the front end specialists see, through the APIs and services behind it, to the data and integration layers underneath. Build the internal Experience Center portal that our specialists use, including case workflows, agent assist, supervisor views, and admin tooling. Build and maintain the integrations that bring customer context, AI-drafted responses, and back office data to specialists at the moment of contact. Develop the API and service layer that classifies inbound inquiries, assembles customer context, and routes work to the right specialist with a prepared brief. Build data-backed views and reporting against Snowflake to give supervisors and operations leadership visibility into volume, queue health, and agent productivity. Use AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as a standard part of your day, in a team that has invested in those tools and built a real point of view on how to use them well. Experiment with new AI tools, models, and techniques as they emerge, and bring back the patterns that work for the team. Write, test, and deploy services on AWS using serverless components (Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB) and modern CI/CD. Partner with UX designers and product managers to turn workflow research and operations interviews into shippable features. Monitor, troubleshoot, and continually improve the systems you ship. What We’re Looking For: 2 to 4 years of experience as a software engineer building web applications, APIs, or internal business software. Comfort working up and down the full stack: front end, back end, data, and integration. Hands-on experience shipping production applications on AWS using serverless components. Working experience with Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse. Comfort with REST and event-driven APIs, including authentication, error handling, and retry semantics. Daily use of AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) as part of how you build, plus the curiosity to keep trying new ones. A builder’s mindset: hard-working, high ownership, and energized by a fast-paced, foundational build. Experience working in an Agile delivery model. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Why Choose Security Benefit? When you join our team, you’re not just getting a paycheck — you’re getting a career path full of growth opportunities, plus a robust benefits package that puts your well-being first. Here’s what you can expect as a full-time Security Benefit associate: Competitive salary and annual incentive bonuses to reward your contributions. 33 days of paid time off (including PTO, holidays, Volunteer Day, and days of significance). Paid parental leave after 90 days of service. Comprehensive medical, dental & vision insurance. 401(k) with company match, plus Profit Sharing & Savings Plan. Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance to give you peace of mind. Flexible Spending Accounts for medical and dependent care. Life Insurance to protect your loved ones. Educational assistance to support your career development. Associate assistance programs for your personal and professional well-being. Ready to Make an Impact?
