Underwriting Manager
About the role As Underwriting Manager, RTL, you will lead and scale a team of underwriters responsible for evaluating and approving Residential Transition Loans (fix & flip, bridge, and small-balance investor loans). You will own underwriting quality, credit consistency, and team performance, ensuring disciplined, risk-adjusted decisions that support both speed and portfolio performance. This role blends people leadership, credit expertise, and operational execution. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Sales, Capital Markets, Valuations, and Closing to deliver a seamless borrower experience while continuously improving underwriting standards, systems, and processes. What you'll do Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing underwriting team; set clear expectations and performance standards Own underwriting quality and credit consistency across RTL originations (fix & flip, bridge, investor loans) Oversee loan-level analysis including borrower experience, liquidity, background and credit profile Ensure adherence to credit guidelines while exercising sound judgment on exceptions and complex scenarios Partner with Sales, Valuations, Closing, and Capital Markets to optimize speed, conversion, and borrower experience Monitor portfolio performance, identify risk trends, and recommend guideline or credit policy adjustments Drive operational excellence through process improvements, workflow design, and LOS/system enhancements (Decipher) Translate investor and warehouse partner feedback into underwriting and process improvements Hire, train, and scale the underwriting team as the platform grows nationally Maintain the Company’s underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures and workplays as well as federal and state regulatory requirements to ensure compliance at all times Required Qualifications 3+ years of underwriting experience in residential transition lending (fix & flip, bridge, DSCR, or investor loans) 1+ years of direct people management experience Deep expertise in RTL credit: ARV/LTV/LTC, rehab budgets, borrower track record, and exit analysis Strong judgment in complex credit scenarios and exception handling Proven ability to build and scale underwriting teams in a fast-paced environment Experience driving process improvement and implementing underwriting systems/LOS platforms Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication skills Bachelor’s degree required Compensation & Benefits We’re building a disciplined, high-performing lending platform with institutional backing and entrepreneurial energy.
