About the Irish Sentinel GP Surveillance Network The Irish sentinel GP surveillance network is a collaborative project between the Irish College of GPs (the College) the Health Service Executive (HSE)-Health Protection and Surveillance Centre (HPSC) and the National Virus Reference laboratory (NVRL) funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE). The College via a memorandum of understanding agreement with the HSE gathers data from 100 participating GP practices around the country and provides it to the HSE partners in line with the memorandum agreement. The job of the GP Sentinel Network Co-Ordinator is a College appointment, reporting to the Medical Director and charged with managing all aspects of the College arm of the project. Schedule of Services Maintenance, communication, education and support of the 100 sentinel sites Performance monitoring and quality improvement initiatives Recruitment of new sites when vacancies arise Liaison with all other relevant parties including the Irish College of GPs, HPSC, NVRL, Healthlink and accredited software vendors Ensuring the weekly data report is sent to the HPSC on time every week Ensuring that sites are appropriately coding and swabbing relevant cases Monitoring of returns/swabbing to validate payments due to GPs Managing specific projects as they arise – e.g. denominator Direct line management of administrative support staff Person Specification Qualifications & Experience Be a GP practice principal A fully qualified GP with MICGP, current member of the College in good standing. Be registered with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for General Practice. Be enrolled on and in compliance with the Irish College of GPs Professional Competence Scheme. Must currently hold a part-time clinical appointment in general practice in Ireland, equivalent to at least four sessions per week and you will be required to continue to meet these criteria if appointed. You must also have held such an appointment within the past two years. Have an interest in computerisation and IT in general, including a working knowledge of digital medical records, disease coding, proficient use of excel and an interest in learning about creating, using and querying databases. Current participation in the Sentinel GP Network is desirable but not essential. If a successful candidate is not in the network, it is expected that their practice would do so.
