Role Overview We are hiring a China AI Ecosystem & Technology Markets Research Analyst to support advisory and research work focused on China’s artificial intelligence ecosystem, technology-sector development, platform competition, AI infrastructure, investment trends, and the policy conditions shaping innovation and commercialization. Based in San Francisco, the Analyst will contribute to structured ecosystem briefs, company and sector profiles, policy notes, stakeholder maps, investment signal reports, and strategic intelligence materials for public institutions, infrastructure stakeholders, development partners, and private-sector actors. The work will frequently intersect with Chinese AI companies, foundation models, cloud and compute infrastructure, semiconductor dependencies, AI applications, venture investment, industrial policy, export controls, data governance, and US–China technology competition. This role is designed for candidates who can analyze China’s AI sector not only through company announcements or product launches, but as a wider ecosystem shaped by talent, capital, policy, infrastructure, regulation, model capabilities, enterprise adoption, hardware constraints, and global technology competition. You will play a key role in translating China technology and AI ecosystem developments into clear strategic and operational insights —helping stakeholders understand where innovation is accelerating, where constraints are emerging, and how China’s AI trajectory may affect markets, supply chains, policy decisions, and competitive positioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Track and analyze China’s AI ecosystem, including foundation model developers, cloud providers, AI application companies, enterprise adoption, research institutions, and industrial AI use cases
- Produce structured
AI ecosystem briefs, company profiles, sector trend reports, policy notes, and investment signal assessments
- Monitor Chinese technology policy, AI regulation, data governance frameworks, industrial subsidies, procurement priorities, and national innovation programs
- Analyze the relationship between AI development, semiconductor access, compute infrastructure, cloud capacity, model training constraints, and hardware supply chains
- Assess how US–China technology competition, export controls, sanctions, investment restrictions, and regulatory divergence affect China’s AI ecosystem
- Map stakeholders across AI companies, research labs, cloud providers, semiconductor firms, investors, regulators, universities, policy institutes, and industrial users
- Conduct comparative analysis of China’s AI ecosystem against other major technology markets, including the United States, Europe, and selected Asian innovation hubs
- Support research on AI commercialization, enterprise deployment, sector-specific applications, robotics, autonomous systems, generative AI tools, and productivity platforms
- Prepare rapid-response notes on major Chinese AI announcements, model releases, investment rounds, regulatory changes, partnership activity, or technology restrictions
- Contribute to dashboards and monitoring frameworks for AI market trends, policy developments, company activity, technology constraints, and ecosystem maturity indicators
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Technology Policy, International Relations, China Studies, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Political Economy, Business, Public Policy, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in technology market research, AI ecosystem analysis, China technology research, venture intelligence, policy analysis, strategic intelligence, or consulting
- Strong understanding of AI industry dynamics, foundation models, cloud infrastructure, semiconductor dependencies, technology regulation, and innovation ecosystems
- Familiarity with China’s technology sector, AI policy environment, venture capital landscape, industrial policy, and US–China technology competition is strongly preferred
- Experience working with consultancies, technology firms, investors, think tanks, research institutes, government institutions, or international organizations is a plus
