Medical Coder / Health Information Coder
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Coder / Health Information Coder to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes used for billing, reimbursement, and statistical purposes. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and health information management practices. This position plays a vital role in ensuring accurate medical records, efficient billing processes, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The successful applicant will contribute to the seamless operation of our medical documentation and revenue cycle management. Duties
- Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the Coding Specialist assigns ICD, PCS, and CPT codes for patients at Client System.
- The role includes assigning DRGs and APCs, abstracting coded data into information systems, and entering data into electronic databases to support patient care quality, outcome analysis, and financial management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coding & Charging: Assign ICD, PCS, and CPT codes for inpatient and observation cases; apply DRGs and APCs accurately.
- Data Management: Abstract coded data into information systems and ensure accurate entry into electronic databases.
- Compliance: Follow established procedures and coding guidelines to maintain accuracy and integrity.
- Technology Use: Utilize computer systems effectively for coding, abstracting, and reporting.
- Collaboration: Work under general direction of the Coding Manager and coordinate with other health information staff.
- Quality & Outcomes: Support assessment of patient care quality, outcome analysis, and financial management through accurate coding.
MUST HAVE:
- Must have 1+ years of MEDICAL CODING experience in Acute Care setting
- Should have an CPC / RHIT / RHIA / CCS Certification - Credentialed by A.H.I.M.A. (American Health Information Management Association)
- Proven skill with computers and computer systems
- Should have good knowledge of ICD, PCS and/or CPT codes for patients
- Should have knowledge of abstracting coded data into abstracting information system
Shift Timing: Flexible Schedule Weekly schedule: M-F CH1 Pay: $51.00 - $54.00 per hour Experience:
- MEDICAL CODING in Acute Care setting: 1 year (Required)
