VSL Copywriter/Strategist Needed for CBD Sleep Product Native Ad Funnel
VSL Copywriter/Strategist — CBD Sleep Product (Native Ad Funnel) We're looking for an experienced VSL copywriter who has written video sales letters that have run profitably on native traffic (Taboola, Outbrain, or affiliate networks like DigiStore/ClickBank). This is not a general video script or commercial — we need someone who understands native-ad-to-VSL funnel architecture specifically. About the project: We're a CBD company with an organic farm in Vermont producing a sleep formula built around CBN (cannabinol). Our founder is a well-known TV pitchman with decades of infomercial and live shopping experience — he's exceptional on camera but this is his first dedicated VSL project. The product has strong retention, real testimonials, and a compelling origin story involving his daughter's health condition that led him to start the company. The VSL will focus on our sleep product, targeting adults 45+ who struggle with sleep and are looking for natural alternatives to prescription and OTC sleep aids. We expect the final video to run 22–28 minutes, driving to a 1-3-6 bundle offer on the landing page with upsells for our anxiety and pain products. What we need from you:
- Write the full VSL strategy and script architecture — hook, story arc, mechanism section (CBN vs CBD differentiation), discovery narrative, social proof placement, CTA sequencing, and offer reveal timing
- Deliver the script as a segmented beat sheet rather than a continuous teleprompter script — our talent performs best working from talking points and emotional direction per section, not reading word-for-word. Each segment should include the key points to hit, the emotional register, and transition cues, with enough structure that the editor can assemble the final piece from the footage
- Advise on the landing page flow — how the VSL page should be structured, when the buy button reveals, what supporting elements belong on the page (social proof logos, citations, urgency elements), and how the upsell sequence should work
- Be available for 2–3 feedback rounds on the rough cut to make sure the edit follows the intended architecture and pacing
What we're looking for in your application:
- Links to VSLs you've written that have actually run on paid traffic (native, YouTube, or affiliate). We want to see the finished product, not just scripts. If the VSL is behind a funnel, walk us through it
- Conversion data if you can share it — even ballpark metrics like AOV, conversion rate, or watch time. We understand NDAs may limit this, but any proof of performance helps
- Your experience with supplement, health, or wellness VSLs specifically. Bonus if you've worked in CBD or products with advertising compliance restrictions
- A brief note on how you'd approach the hook for this project. We're not asking you to write it for free — just want to see how you think about VSL structure and whether your instincts align with the format
What you should know going in:
- Our talent is a veteran pitchman, not a first-timer. He has strong instincts from the infomercial world and will have opinions. The value you bring is the VSL-specific architecture — the delayed reveal, the story-first approach, the pacing — that's different from traditional direct response TV. We need someone confident enough in the format to protect the structure
- CBD has advertising compliance challenges. We can't run on Meta or TikTok, we have limitations on Shopify, and the product gets flagged on most major platforms. The media plan is native ads and/or affiliate traffic. Your copy needs to work within those constraints
- We have extensive B-roll assets (organic farm footage, production process, product shots, founder footage from a 12-part reality show) and will be collecting new UGC testimonials. You don't need to worry about sourcing visuals — just indicate in the beat sheet where B-roll, testimonials, or supporting visuals should drop in
Timeline: We'd like to move quickly. Ideally first draft of the beat sheet within 7–10 days of kickoff, with the shoot targeted for 2–3 weeks after the script is locked. Budget: Open to discussing based on experience and scope. Please include your rate or project fee in your proposal. Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
