Experienced Ocean Product Development Specialist – Strategic Growth and Carrier Management

Job Summary:

As an Ocean Product Development Specialist, you'll play a critical role in supporting the growth of ocean volumes and enhancing the development of our ocean product. You'll work closely with our MD of Ocean, carrier development teams, and sales and operations to implement strategies that increase volumes, maximize competitiveness, and enhance service quality. Your expertise will be essential in analyzing carrier service, routings, carrier performance, and supporting carrier service issues. You'll also serve as an ocean subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to sales and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

* Execute strategies to support the growth of ocean volumes and enhance the development of the ocean product

  • Work closely with the MD of Ocean to support carrier development, pricing, and analysis of carrier service, routings, and carrier performance
  • Analyze carrier service and routings to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to enhance service quality
  • Support sales and operations teams as an ocean subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise on ocean-related matters
  • Assist in implementing pricing programs and reviewing volume targets to ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Collaborate with the TLM to develop an ocean strategy that enhances the effectiveness of sales and achieves expectations of account development and yield enhancement
  • Communicate strategies, market conditions, and direction to internal and external stakeholders, including sales, operations, and carrier development teams
  • Conduct regular service reviews to ensure agreed-upon KPIs are being met or exceeded
  • Gather, analyze, and report information regarding performance and competitive activity, submitting reports as required
  • Work with the MD of Ocean and regional ocean management team to promote the ocean product and support sales and operations as needed
  • Manage annual budget, controlling, monitoring, and reporting results on a regular basis to achieve budget targets
  • Collaborate with marketing to develop external and internal communications specific to the ocean product

Essential Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • At least 8 years of experience in the international freight forwarding industry, including direct ocean experience in working with ocean contracts, negotiating ocean rates, quoting ocean rates, and analyzing ocean rates and routing
  • Prior ocean carrier experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Business-oriented and remarkable business acumen
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience working with ocean contracts, negotiating ocean rates, and analyzing ocean rates and routing

  • Knowledge of ocean carrier operations and logistics
  • Familiarity with industry trends and market conditions
  • Experience in a leadership or management role
