Our client, a dynamic and innovative technology company in Austin, Texas, US , is seeking an accomplished and strategic Media Relations Director to lead its public relations efforts on a fully remote basis. This senior role will be responsible for shaping and executing the company's media strategy, enhancing brand reputation, and driving positive public perception through impactful storytelling and journalist engagement. You will be the primary point of contact for media outlets and manage all aspects of external communications. The Media Relations Director will develop and implement comprehensive media relations plans to support product launches, company announcements, and strategic initiatives. This includes identifying key media targets, cultivating strong relationships with journalists, bloggers, and influencers across various sectors, and securing positive media coverage in top-tier publications and platforms. You will be responsible for crafting compelling press releases, media kits, executive talking points, and other PR materials. Proactive media outreach, pitch development, and managing incoming media inquiries will be core functions. Crisis communication planning and execution will also fall under your purview, ensuring the company's reputation is protected during sensitive situations. You will monitor media coverage, analyze trends, and report on the effectiveness of PR campaigns. Collaboration with marketing, social media, and executive leadership teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across all communication channels is essential. This role demands exceptional writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, coupled with a strategic mindset and a deep understanding of the media landscape. You will also have the opportunity to manage external PR agencies and budgets as needed. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; at least 8 years of experience in media relations, preferably within the technology sector, with a proven track record of securing high-profile media placements; extensive network of contacts within national and trade media; exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; experience in developing and executing successful media strategies; strong understanding of crisis communications; ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, remote environment.
