Logistics Coordinator - International Freight
Our client, a global leader in supply chain management, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Logistics Coordinator to support their international freight operations in Detroit, Michigan . This role is essential in facilitating the smooth and efficient movement of goods across borders, coordinating with carriers, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery and compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of international shipping regulations, documentation requirements, and various modes of transport (air, sea, land). You will be responsible for managing shipment tracking, resolving logistical challenges, and maintaining accurate records. This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include: Coordinating and managing the end-to-end process for international freight shipments. Arranging and booking transportation with ocean carriers, airfreight forwarders, and land carriers. Preparing and processing all necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and commercial invoices. Tracking shipment progress and providing timely updates to clients and internal stakeholders. Liaising with customs brokers to ensure compliance with import/export regulations and smooth customs clearance. Identifying and resolving logistical issues and delays, such as rerouting shipments or addressing documentation discrepancies. Maintaining accurate records of shipments, costs, and transit times in the company's logistics management system. Communicating effectively with overseas partners, suppliers, and internal departments. Negotiating rates and service levels with carriers and vendors. Ensuring compliance with all relevant international trade laws and company policies. Assisting with freight cost auditing and payment processing. Contributing to the continuous improvement of logistics processes and efficiency. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field is preferred. 2+ years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain management, with a focus on international shipments. Solid understanding of international shipping terms, Incoterms, and customs procedures. Familiarity with various modes of transportation (ocean, air, road, rail). Experience with logistics management software and tracking systems. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders. Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Knowledge of specific import/export regulations for key trade lanes is a plus. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
