Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Supervisor

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

SCIMHA is hiring an Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) Supervisor to help lead the PEAR (Partners for Early Attuned Relationships) Program—South Carolina’s statewide Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) program supporting children (0–5), families, and the professionals who serve them. This is a hybrid leadership + direct service role (50/50) where you will:

  • Supervise and develop a team of Mental Health Consultants (MHCs)
  • Provide high-quality, relationship-based consultation in early care and education settings
  • Help shape and strengthen a growing statewide system of care

PEAR's point of entry for service is early care and education programs. PEAR Supervisor will divide their time between program supervision (50%) and direct service delivery (50%). Supervisor will provide oversight of mental health consultants (MHCs) in their specified region, supervising 5-6 PEAR consultants. While this is primarily a remote position, applicants must live in SC or have the ability to regularly travel within the region they will oversee. The Supervisor is expected to bring substantial experience in IECMHC or closely related consultation practice, with the ability to serve as a mentor and practice leader to consultants. This includes modeling high-quality consultation, supporting reflective practice, and guiding consultants in applying IECMHC principles in complex, real-world settings. This role requires a supervisor who is highly skilled in managing and developing people, including setting clear expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and addressing performance concerns directly and constructively. This role also requires the ability to balance reflective, relationship-based supervision with clear accountability for performance, documentation, and service delivery expectations. Reporting to PEAR's Associate Director, the PEAR Supervisor will: Program Management and Supervision—50%

  • Lead recruitment efforts of and provide direct supervision to MHCS, including setting clear performance expectations, providing regular feedback, and actively managing performance.
  • Conduct regular field observations and provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to support consultant growth and accountability.
  • Review MHC documentation of service delivery and ensures that data is maintained in an appropriate, accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitor caseloads for MHCs and assign cases in partnership with IECMHC Intake Coordinator.
  • Ensure productivity standards are met for MHCs in their region.
  • Provide on-call clinical and reflective support to MHCs, including guidance, decision-making support, and direction in high-stakes or time-sensitive situations.
  • Monitor IECMHC activities to ensure model fidelity, including over site of CQI for their region.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting is conducted in alignment and accordance with evaluation protocol.
  • Oversee regional PEAR outreach activities, including participating in and delegating representation of PEAR at community events.
  • Provide trainings and presentations to community partners as needed.
  • Model and encourage the deepening of IECMHC skills within PEAR through active participation in and facilitation of group supervision activities, and regular sharing of their own consultation work in these settings.

IECMHC Service Delivery—50%

  • Provide relationship-based IECMHC in early care and education settings, using promotion, prevention, and early intervention frameworks to support children’s social-emotional development and resilience.
  • Carry a partial caseload of IECMHC cases, including child/family focused, classroom focused, and programmatic focused consultation along with ECE staff trainings as needed.
  • Conduct observations, screenings, and ongoing assessments of children, caregiver-child relationships, and classroom environments; offer recommendations and develop collaborative, written intervention plans to address behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Partner with educators, caregivers, and families to strengthen communication, build skills, and promote understanding of early childhood development, attachment, and trauma-informed care.
  • Facilitate reflective practice groups, trainings, and community collaboration to build capacity across early childhood systems and support coordinated service delivery among child-serving professionals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records; participate in reflective and administrative supervision, agency initiatives, and program development activities.
  • Direct service delivery will account for approximately 50% of the Supervisor's time, and reserves roughly 50% of their time to attend to their supervisor duties.

Required: Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related field. Minimum 5 years in leadership role that included supervision of others. Minimum 5 years of relevant infant mental health practice. Holds, or is eligible to obtain, the Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health. Endorsed Reflective Supervisor designation preferred; candidates with relevant experience who are willing to work toward endorsement are encouraged to apply. While the services provided by the PEAR Program will not be clinical, the professional training and experience of a clinician who has worked to support the relational health of children 0-5 and their families will be important in developing the approach and implementation protocol of the IECMH Consultation model. Ability to travel throughout their designated region in SC, and attend occasional evening and weekend meetings or outreach events. Characteristics of Success: The knowledge and capacity to work independently, while maintaining a highly collaborative and communicative team orientation, is essential. In order for this program and for SCIMHA to be successful in serving young children and families, we are seeking passionate and knowledgeable candidates who demonstrate the following:

  • Are well-versed in IECMH principles, practices, and systems
  • Are highly organized, with exceptional skills in planning, prioritization, and follow-through
