Responsibilities
- Collaborate with bariatric surgeons, physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team member
- Participate in case conferences, treatment planning meetings, and program development initiatives
- Coordinate referrals to community resources, higher levels of care, or specialty behavioral health services as needed
- Advocate for patients’ psychosocial needs within the medical system
- Maintain licensure and comply with all state, federal, and organizational regulations
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program outcomes tracking
- Provide patient education related to behavioral health, coping strategies, and long-term success following bariatric intervention
- May facilitate bariatric or behavioral health support groups (if applicable)
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for bariatric surgery candidates, including evaluation of mental health history, substance use, coping skills, readiness for surgery, and adherence capacity
- Provide pre- and post-operative counseling to bariatric patients addressing behavioral change, emotional adjustment, body image, trauma history, and lifestyle modification
- Deliver individual therapy using evidence-based modalities
- Assess and manage co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and stress-related concerns
- Complete required clinical documentation, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with regulatory and program standards
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required
- Current Massachusetts LICSW license in good standing required
- Experience providing clinical behavioral health services to adults required
- Strong assessment, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication skills required
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with bariatric surgery patients, weight management programs, or medical populations preferred
- Knowledge of eating disorders, trauma-informed care, and health behavior change preferred
- Familiarity with integrated care or hospital-based settings preferred
- Experience facilitating groups or psychoeducational programming preferred
