  • *About The Role**

The St. Louis, MO Veterans Affairs Medical Center, John Cochran Campus, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Chief Resident for Quality and Safety. This role offers a unique opportunity for a PGY-4 or higher resident who is board-eligible or certified in Internal Medicine to lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the VA healthcare system. The Chief Resident for Quality and Safety will participate in a specially designed curriculum developed in collaboration with national and local VA resources, as well as the Patient Safety and Quality Program at Washington University. The position emphasizes leadership in system redesign, quality improvement projects, and educational development, with limited clinical responsibilities, focusing primarily on advancing healthcare quality and safety standards. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief of Medical Service and will be supported by dedicated office and clerical staff, ensuring they can focus on their leadership and project responsibilities. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about healthcare improvement, leadership development, and scholarly work in patient safety.

  • *Qualifications**

The ideal candidate for this position will be a PGY-4 or higher resident who is either board-eligible or certified in Internal Medicine by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding organizational skills, effective teaching abilities, and excellent interpersonal communication. A strong enthusiasm for quality improvement, system redesign, and patient safety is essential. Prior experience or interest in leading quality improvement projects and curriculum development will be advantageous. The candidate should be highly motivated, innovative, and capable of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.   • *Responsibilities**

Key responsibilities include designing, testing, and executing quality improvement projects, analyzing data to identify areas for enhancement, and mentoring residents and staff in safety practices. The role involves participation in or oversight of projects aligned with national VA standards and collaborating with the Patient Safety and Quality Program at Washington University. The CRQS will also contribute to scholarly activities, presentations, and publications related to healthcare quality and safety. While clinical duties are limited, the position requires active engagement in educational leadership, project management, and system redesign efforts to promote high-quality, patient-centered care.
