## Agency and job identification Agency Adult Correction Division Job Classification Title SOIU Telecommunicator (S) Position Number Grade NC05. ### About us and where you'll work The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees, responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. The Special Operations & Intelligence Unit (SOIU) directs activities of both Prisons and Community Corrections staff and oversees the collection, analysis, and sharing of intelligence information. This SOIU Communications Center position is located at the Yonkers Road Complex in Raleigh, NC. ### What the role does day to day The SOIU Telecommunicator position is responsible for telecommunications and daily operations of the Division of Criminal Information Network terminal. You will provide accurate and timely information to assist other agencies in appropriately classifying offenders to facilitate lawful apprehension and arrest of criminal offenders. The job requires action and knowledge in areas such as a computer monitoring system, criminal network application, daily operations and maintenance of multiple platforms, knowledge of all systems software, hardware, and NCDAC OPUS mainframe system for use on a daily basis and for providing customer service and assistance to field staff or other authorized officials. You will also serve as a liaison to provide information in time of need for public safety and act as a primary link with information essential for routine duties and emergency assistance. Salary range: $33,902.00 - $59,327.00 Annually. ### Skills, experience, and qualifications You must meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement to be considered. The specific minimum education and experience statement: High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of dispatcher experience and work efficiently under pressure (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications: Must meet applicable Education, Employment and Training standards as required to be Department of Criminal Information (DCI) certified. Must be DCI certified or become certified within 120 days of employment and maintain certification by recertification every 2 years. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: effective communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly in both written and verbal formats; demonstrated ability to interpret and apply rules, laws, and governing security regulations; proficiency in using software applications for accurate data entry, retrieval, and reporting; current DCI Certification and solid understanding of law enforcement practices and NC DAC terminology; and working knowledge of probation and parole policies, prison and court systems, and related procedures. ### Schedule, recruitment, and application notes The NC Department of Adult Correction continuously recruits for Special Operations Intelligence Unit Telecommunicators and will accept applications regardless of whether there is a current vacancy.
