Remote Principal Research Scientist - AI in Drug Discovery

Our client is seeking an exceptional Principal Research Scientist with expertise in Artificial Intelligence and its application in Drug Discovery to join their pioneering, remote-first research team. This is a senior leadership role focused on driving innovation at the intersection of AI/ML and pharmaceutical R&D. You will spearhead the development and implementation of cutting-edge computational approaches to accelerate the identification and optimization of novel therapeutic candidates. Responsibilities: Lead research initiatives leveraging AI/ML techniques (e.g., deep learning, graph neural networks, natural language processing) for drug discovery applications, including target identification, hit finding, lead optimization, and preclinical development. Design and oversee the development of predictive models for molecular properties, biological activity, and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) profiles. Develop and implement novel algorithms and computational frameworks to analyze large-scale biological and chemical datasets. Collaborate closely with biologists, chemists, pharmacologists, and other R&D scientists to integrate computational insights into experimental workflows. Mentor and guide a team of talented data scientists and computational chemists, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and innovation. Stay at the forefront of advancements in AI/ML, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, and computational drug discovery. Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences. Evaluate and adopt new computational tools and technologies to enhance research capabilities. Contribute to the strategic direction of the company's AI-driven drug discovery efforts. Ensure the robustness, scalability, and reproducibility of computational models and analyses. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field with a strong focus on AI/ML. 10+ years of post-doctoral or industry experience in computational drug discovery and AI/ML. Demonstrated track record of leadership and innovation in AI/ML for pharmaceutical R&D, evidenced by publications and patents. Expertise in developing and applying advanced machine learning models to complex biological and chemical data. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch). Deep understanding of drug discovery processes, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology. Experience with large-scale data management, cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and high-performance computing (HPC). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences. Proven ability to lead cross-functional research teams and drive projects from conception to completion. This is a fully remote role, offering the opportunity to work from anywhere within the US.
