Job Description

Do you love working outdoors and with livestock? The Division of Animal Industry has a great opportunity in Emery County for an independent individual. If you are interested in working in the agriculture industry with livestock and livestock producers, and you are a team player with a passion for agriculture, this is the job for you!

Key Responsibilities

Inspect livestock to verify ownership and vaccination verification, on livestock sold private treaty, at livestock auctions and slaughterhouses, or moving across state line boundaries, to record changes of ownership, and collect various livestock fees. Identify estrays and removal of livestock from the state, county, and federal road systems to prevent damage to vehicles and loss of life. Verify licensing as required of livestock dealers for buying and selling transactions. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to work professionally with the public and producers. Schedules and conducts inspections. Analyzes, summarizes, and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results, and/or makes recommendations. Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements. Interprets, claries, explains, and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulatoins, etc.

Qualifications

I. Legal & Regulatory Compliance Applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures. Read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures. Knowledge of brands and brand identification. Knowledge of livestock, livestock breeds, and identifying marks.

II. Information Management & Analysis Compose and produce reports, documents and related material. Use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions. Find, gather and collect information or data. Conduct a methodical examination. Review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness.

III. Communication & Interpersonal Skills Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally. Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing. Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism. Communicate fluently in English.

IV. Organizational & Administrative Skills Arrange, coordinate, or schedule time and details. Agency objectives, organization, structure and mission. Agency, professional and/or industry standards and practices. Agency and/or organizational program(s). Be detail-oriented. Be self-motivated.

V. Technical/Operational Skills Run, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment.

Supplemental Information

Exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather conditions Requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computers, monitors, or record boxes. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, above-average agility, and dexterity. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc. Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
