We are searching for a Biomedical Statistical Specialist with a strong statistical background to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The position is part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists who provide computational biology support, training, and consultation services to researchers. This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and based in Rockville, MD with opportunity for on-site or remote work.
What You Will Do:
- Plan and carry out statistical analyses, including quality control/assessment, experimental design, feasibility assessment, and reporting of results
- Provide statistical consultation and analysis of NIH scientists datasets from both basic and clinical research projects
- Work independently and collaborate with bioinformaticians and biologists to develop or implement statistical methods to integrate and summarize omics data derived from WGS/WES, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq and many other emerging high-throughput genomics, epigenomics, metagenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data.
- Ph.D. (Preferred degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics, Population Genetics, Data Science, Computational Biology, or Bioinformatics) OR M.S. degree with 4-6 years of relevant work experience in the above domains (e.g. in industry, academia, or public sectors)
- Fundamental knowledge of statistical methodology, including power analysis, basic and advanced statistical tests, general linear models, mixed models, nonlinear models, nonparametric methods, multivariate methods, cluster analysis, principal components, partial least squares, joint modeling, and time series analyses
- Proficiency in Python or R statistical programming, as well as data visualization (e.g., ggplot2 or matplotlib)
- Experience applying statistical methodologies and programming skills to biomedical problems and working with non-technical collaborators
- Experience with teaching, tutoring, or training of scientists in statistical programming
- Proficiency in version control (e.g., git and GitHub)
- Familiarity with SAS, JMP, and Prism software
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the US
- Experience in the statistical analysis of multiple omics data types (e.g., WGS/WES, RNA-Seq, proteomics, etc.) is preferred
- Experience with a reproducible workflow library (e.g., targets in R or snakemake in Python) is preferred
- Experience with high performance computing environments, machine learning or artificial intelligence/deep learning is preferred
- Experience with developing software packages (e.g., R packages, python modules, etc.) or visual dashboards (e.g., Shiny in R or Streamlit, Dash, etc. in Python) is preferred
