Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our Core Insurance Platform (CIP) organization. As a lead member of the engineering staff, you will work closely with technical and business teams to develop the technical foundations that unlock leaps in agility and functionality for the GEICO stack. Your expertise will help drive our insurance business transformation, enabling us to transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide leadership to engineering teams, focusing on multiple areas and owning complete solutions across their entire life cycle.
  • Platform Development: Envision, design, and deliver platform capabilities that enrich the GEICO tech ecosystem for a broad variety of teams.
  • Collaboration and Influence: Influence and build vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems for building enterprise-class business applications.
  • Quality and Performance: Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of solutions, leading in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
  • Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Mentor junior team members professionally, sharing best practices and improving processes within and across teams.

Essential Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Fluency and specialization in at least two modern languages, such as Java, .NET, Go, or Rust, including object-oriented design.
  • Microservices Architecture: Experience in building products using microservices architecture and extensible GraphQL and gRPC APIs.
  • Cloud Computing: Experience with commercial cloud environments, such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and fluency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps operational framework.
  • Security and Monitoring: Experience with security protocols and products, application monitoring tools, and performance assessments.
  • Education and Experience: BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience, with 6+ years of professional software development experience within a Java, .NET, or Go framework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional Technical Skills: Experience with container orchestration services, such as Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Proven experience in leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, with a strong desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
